This topic describes basic tips and tricks for using Hide Folders XP.

Add a file or folder to the list

There are several ways to add a file or folder to the list:

1. Select File->Add to list->Add any folder folder from the main menu (or just press Insert key).
A dialog window with file and folders appears. Select required file system object from the window and press OK button.

2. Press button in the Hide Folders XP toolbar.
A dialog window with file and folders appears. Select required file system object from the window and press OK button.

3. Drag the desired files or folders from Windows Explorer and drop them on Hide Folders XP window.

4. Click right mouse button on a folder or file in Windows Explorer and select Hide & Lock with Hide Folders XP from the context menu. (This option is available only if Add command into Windows Explorer context menu is checked in General Hide Folders XP settings)


Remove a file or folder from the list

Highlight the required file object in the list.
From the main menu select File->Remove from list (or just press Delete key).


Change protection method

Highlight the required file objects in the list.
Select File->Set object protection->desired method from the main menu. Make sure that the new protection method appears near the file system object name in the list (in the Protection column)

Enable protection

To enable protection just select File->Enable protection from the main menu.

To enable protection and quit the program select File->Quit from the main menu (or press Ctrl+Q key combination).


Disable protection

Select File->Disable protection from the main menu.


Change user password

Select Tools->Change password from the main menu.
If you have already had a password, password prompt window appears - enter you current password and click OK.
Change password window appears.
Enter and confirm your password in the corresponding lines and click OK.

Clear user password

Select Tools->Change password from the main menu.
Password prompt window appears - enter you current password and click OK.
Change password window appears.
Click OK button while password lines are blank.

Protect Hide Folders XP from unauthorized uninstall

Set user password if it was not assigned before.
Open Settings window (Tools->Settings) and click Ask password when uninstall to check it.
